Natural Living Tips for You and Your Cats

I'm a firm believer in providing a healthy home and diet for my cats to promote a healthy and long life.

Since I already practice healthy living in my home for myself and my husband, I am confident that my cats are also benefitting from healthy indoor air quality.

1. I avoid using harsh chemicals in the home for cleaning and maintenance. I opt for natural and less toxic cleaning products and building materials.
2. I have tile and wood floors for easy cleaning.
3. I maintain a clean central ventilation with periodically getting the vents cleaned for avoid dust and mold build-up.
4. I select natural furnishings whenever possible.

As for daily pet care, I provide filtered water, natural pet food that without additives and by-products, and I supplement their food with barely greens. I also select low-ash varieties of natural cat food for optimum urinary health.

We bathe our cats every 1-2 months with Allersearch Pet Anti-Dander Shampoo, a natural shampoo that reduces pet dander as well as repels fleas.

Visitors to my house always comment on how healthy my cats appear to them, and I believe these practices have helped their overall health.

What Information to Provide the Cat Sitter

If you are going away on a trip and have decided to have a pet sitter come to your home instead of using boarding away from home, here is a basic list of information to cover:

1. Make sure to provide a name and phone number of the local vet. If there is a pet emergency hospital, provide that information as well.
2. Leave enough food to feed your cats for several days past your anticipated arrival date. Trips can sometimes be delayed.
3. Have an agreed upon system to contact your cat sitter after arriving home. Plane delays, for instance, may create the need for additional visits. Provide flight and time of arrival (if by plane).
4. Instruct the pet sitter on medications as well as possible signs of illness for particular conditions.
5. Leave your contact information as well as the contact information of family and friends.
6. Leave a detailed description of feeding times and amounts.
7. If the cats go outdoors, agree upon steps to take if the cats do not come home at night (does the sitter wait or does the sitter leave them outside).
8. If the cats go outside, are there particular situations in the neighborhood that may cause difficulties--neighborhood cats or dogs, for instance.
9. Provide cleaning supplies in case your cats make unanticipated messes.

I'm creating this blog for people who are as crazy about cats as I am. I currently have four cats and they always bring joy and laughter to my life.
